Another children’s book I wrote, illustrated and hand-bound myself titled Peabody Loves Attention. Each pages also features embroidery and pop-up elements. I also sewed the kooky toys of Norbie (red ears) and Peabody (the blue fellow with a monocle and sparkly red boots) myself.

Larry’s Really Angry.. I posted this over a year ago, but felt it was more relevant now & I wanted to share it with all of you. This is part of a little self authored project that I created while I was studying at the super awesome Tyler School of Art.
The heart of my project was to explain what had happened in Uganda to children without the overshadowing of the politics involved in order to get straight to the heart of the issue: the suffering of all of those affected by Kony & the LRA.
In the story, Urie (the blue monster whose name means “flame / light”), saves his little friends from Larry (who is supposed to symbolize Kony). Urie is a little beacon of light who refused to be overshadowed by the darkness. It is a bit dark/grimm even though it doesn’t delve into the gory details. Rather than being rescued by an outside source, Urie and his friends pull together to rebuild their lives.
The first two photos are handmade plushes of Urie & of the toy soldiers & the others are examples of a few spreads/pages from “Larry’s Really Angry.”
While I was still in school, I wrote a series of books trying to explain various humanitarian issues to children, LRA, PLA (Peabody Loves Attention) and KLA (Kolya’s Lonely Adventure).
PLA (People’s Liberation Army) tells the tale of Norbie (a nickname for Norbu, meaning jewel / gem) who tries to keep Peabody from destroying his villages stories and traditions, symbolizing exactly how the Chinese government is destroying Tibet.
KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) tells the tale of Kolya (meaning victory of the people), who is shunned by a tiny village due to his height. Although the conflicts have ceased, there is still a looming hatred between Albanians and Serbians due to cultural differences. The aim of KLA is to give children a lesson in acceptance and diversity, and to inspire openness to learning about one another and their differences.

Also, I think it’s super wonderful that KONY 2012 captured such a wide audience because it fulfilled its main goal.. but the video was unfairly misleading in allowing people to think this was still occurring.
